Family first

When Joanna set out to design the rugs in her Magnolia Home collection, she did so thoughtfully, with family and practicality in mind.

This approach led her to marry function with relaxed sophistication, and there's no denying that her authenticity as an artist shines through in every detail of these rugs. In her own words:

"My favorite part about designing a space for a client is adding in the final touches; the things that really make the room come alive. One of my favorite things about my rug line is that these pieces are made with so much rich history and tradition. Each individual collection is crafted using a different technique."

Keeping with tradition

Some of those collections are made in small villages in India, where the rich tradition of rug making has been passed down for thousands of years from generation to generation.

In the Magnolia Home line, this tradition is still very much alive. The patient artisans who craft these rugs can take weeks to finish, starting out with nothing but raw bundles of natural fiber. These are then spun and dyed by hand and sun-dried so that each and every strand of yarn turns out as a perfectly uniform shade.

Again, in Joanna's words: "These rugs are more than just home décor pieces - they're a way of life for the artisans."
